Born on 20th August 1952 in Cheremkhovo, Irkutsk Region.

Graduated cum laude from Irkutsk Institute of National Economics, and Supreme Courses of the General Staff Military Academy of the Russian Federation Armed Forces.

Mr. Chemezov started his career in Irkutsk Research Institute of Rare and Nonferrous Metals. Since 1980 he worked in “Luch” Experimental Production Association and was the Head of its Representative Office in the German Democratic Republic from 1983 to 1988. Thereafter he held the office of Deputy Director General of “Sovintersport” Foreign Trade Association for eight years. In 1996-1999: Head of Foreign Economic Relations Department in Business and Property Administration for RF President. In 1999-2000: Director General of Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Promexport”, since November 2000: First Deputy Director General of the Rosoboronexport State Corporation. Appointed to the office of Rosoboronexport's Director General by Decree of Russian President No. 567 of 28th April 2004. Member of the Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation with Foreign States.

Since 28 April 2007 he is a Head of Bureau of the Russian Union of Machine-Builders; Chairman of Board of Directors of the Oboronprom United Machine-building Production Corporation, VSMPO-Avisma Corporation, AvtoVAZ and KamAZ Companies; Member of the Board of Directors of the Irkut Corporation, Almaz-Antey PVO Concern, Sukhoi Aviation Holding Company, Kazan Optomechanical Plant.

On December 2, 2006 Mr. Chemezov was unanimously elected member of the High Council of the United Russia Party at the VII National Convention.

Mr. Chemezov was appointed Director General of the Rostekhnologii State Corporation for Assistance to Development, Production and Export of Advanced Technology Industrial Product under Presidential Decree No. 1575 dated 26 November 2007.

Mr. Chemezov is the full member of the Academy of Military Sciences, academician and Doctor of Economics, professor. He is an author of more than 120 publications, including the monographs: "Military-Technical Cooperation of Russia with Foreign Countries: An Experience of Organisational Design." (2001), “The Strategic Management of the Russian Defence-and-Industial Complex” (2006), “The Russia’s Military-Technical Cooperation in the XXIst Century: A Theory, Methodology, and Practice” (2007), “The Strategic Management of Military-Technical Innovations in the Integrated Corporate Structures” (2009). He is the Chairman of the Department of “Management in Military-and-Technical Co-operation and High-Technology Areas” at the Moscow State Foreign Relations Institute (university) of the Ministry of Foreign Relations of the Russian Federation.

Since 2005 Mr. Sergei Chemezov is a Chairman of the Board of Guardians of the Russian Federation Sports Fund.

He is awarded with the Order of Honor, the Order of Merits to the Fatherland (Degrees III, IV), the Order of Friendship, the Order of the Legion of Honour (of France) and Russian Orthodox Church's Order of Saint Blessed Grand Prince Dmitry Donskoy (Degree II), Order of Saint Faithful Prince Daniel of Moscow (Degree III), and the Saint Sergiy Radonezhskiy Order (IInd Degree).

Mr. Chemezov is the laureate of the Russian Federation Government Award in the domain of Science and Technology, the laureate of Man-of-the-Year 2004 National Award in Defence Sector Nomination approved by the Russian Biographic Institute, and the winner of honour badge of Russian Economics Leader-2004 awarded by the International Forum of World Experience and Russian Economics, an award winner of the Suvorov Academy of Military Sciences.

He is married, has three sons and daughter.
